I recently asked Telstra Clear to supply me with a new phone number to our new house. I then asked our normal telco to transfer their services to our new number, which they did. That was six weeks ago. I find out today that Telstra Clear have since taken over my toll account. (this was after inital problems with broadband that held our install up for a week)

I have aparently been a Telstra Clear tolls account holder for over a week and a half and all my tolls have been routed through them without any autherisation from me.

I have not asked Telstra Clear for their services and I defenitly not asked them to do anything other that supply us with a line.

Initially i had to wait, on hold, for 45 minutes to set the phone number up, then 35 minutes to advise them the first time that they got it wrong.

Telstra Clear's service is 'average' at best but this is very poor.

Not that I am trying to stick up for TelstraClear or anything, but you did request a new connection from TelstraClear, and by default when a new line is provisioned (from any provider), TelstraClear (or the landline provider) will also be your tolls provider. I suggest you go back to your normal toll provider and ask why didn’t they activate the service when you requested?

[Edit] If Telstra did re assign tolls back to them with your permission, there must be an underlying reason. For example with Broadband toll customers are often given a discount on their Broadband plan in exchange for keeping tolls with (in this case) Telstra. Either way, your consent should have been recorded in some format or another.

That was my understanding also. Sign up for TCL phone line and they become the default tolls provider. Not that I make many tolls calls but when I use I use their Ztalk service (dial 0505 as the prefix) since it's cheaper than their default tolls.  Other alternatives I guess are some of the other LD carriers or calling cards.

To say TCL slammed you is probably misrepresentation of the situation

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Who is your other provider? I was under the impression there were still some 3rd party toll providers who can't provide non coded access to TCL On Network customers.

I understand your comments but I should have given out more information in my inital statement. I only asked TC for a line rental as I am a World exchange customer. Once I was given that number I informed World Exchange and they logged my new number into their customer data base. I did not ask TC for any service and infact told them that I only required a line (line rental) to the new place, and not broadband or tolls. TC then, after 3 weeks, took my number back without any request by me, I didn't even know my tolls were going through them.
