So whats the hold up on number portability on prepay?
Is it really just the a billing system issue?

I think Vodafone are using the "new billing system" excuse to hold this one off as long as possible. It will come though, otherwise the comcom will hit them over the head with a big regulation size hammer.

all about profits i reckon. If they start letting people switch to on account think of all the people who wanna switch back to prepay from on account.

The 'comcom' have nothing do do with that. all the goverment requires is that companies release numbers to other companies. they have no guidelines about bringing numbers in or changing plans within one company.

That's not quite correct. The Commerce Commision have already warned Vodafone about this issue and expressed their dissatisfaction. They do have the power to act because Vodafone have essentially crudely tried to exploit the portability laws.

The craziest thing about this is that Vodafone are only harming themselves and nobody else. If it is intentional it's got the be the most poorly thought out business decision up there with Coke's 1985 decision to change their recipe and switch to New Coke..

Cheers sbiddle, that's exactly what I was referring to in my above post. Sure Vodafone can do what they like, but they are under pressure to change there stance.

Well if VF don't let me move soon my on account # to VF pre-paid I'll consider porting my VF on account to TCNZ pre-paid then back to VF pre-paid

Which you cannot do, you are unable to port to VF prepaid, which is the problem here.

Sorry... Voda won't let you do that either (the "back to VF pre-paid" bit)

They really need to be brought to heel by the ComCom...

oh dear....my patience is wearing even thiner now with VF, I have supported them for over 10 years...

lets see what the commerce commission does, when goes this TCNZ GSM [WCDMA] network arrive ?

the other thing that irks me is my wife is roaming to Oz this week with her pre-paid VF and I was miffed to find the 3 for 30 deal doesn't apply to roaming phones, one would think VF would want me to use my handset to call my wife when she is roaming it seems I'm better off using my TCNZ landline to call her !

FYI I'm on Get70 and she is on Pre-Paid Nights and Weekends

Just a thought for you:

Why not switch your wife's phone to Supa Prepay and get Best Mate?

Then she can call you as much as she wants for $6. After she gets back, cancel the Best Mate deal at the end of the month. Then return to her existing Prepay plan if you want to.

What do you think?
Would it save you some $$$?

Aaarrrggh. just realised a possible flaw with this idea:

I don't think you can call your Best Mate while overseas. It would be charged at international rates which are horrendous.

The cheapest way would be for her to take a laptop and use Skype to talk to you.

Answer:
Supa Prepay Add-ons cannot be used whilst roaming. However auto roaming and credit card roaming is still available on Supa Prepay

also, you port to vodafone they'll sting you with a 12 month contract so can't port again.....

so, numberportability is for people who don't want to change telcos.

Why not switch your wife's phone to Supa Prepay and get Best Mate?

1. Best Mate can't be used when roaming
2. Supa Prepay sucks - the terms & conditions means you have to spend $20 every 90 days or loose it

Best option is for her to buy a Oz GSM provider starter pre-paid pack thereby not paying the roaming surcharges or when I call her for me to use my TCNZ landline to call her hotel DDI for long calls
