Spark is providing a firmware download for the Huawei HG659.  I note there has been quite a lot of discussion regarding the VF version of the modem, and how the VOIP is useless for any other SIP provider, as it's hardcoded into the firmware.

I am wondering if anyone has tried Spark's firmware download.  Does it work? Does it fix the VOIP limitation?  Are there any down sides?

Anyone braver than me willing to find out?

Yes I have downloaded this firmware to the vodafone version it does not seem to give voip access but it has a lot of other feature under other tabs you loose SSH access.
It also has ADSL which did not appear under the voda version.
It also had the same SSID  : vodafonexxxx

everything works normally. no problems. wifi a bit more stable, it's inherently problematic, but less than the VF firmware

I installed it for a look, it took a couple of goes to install it.  It buggers up the wizards, and you have to find the manual settings for VDSL etc.
