Have suddenly started to find email being bounced by users of Trend Mirco because my static IP address is listed on MAPS DUL database (www.mail-abuse.com). A simple matter to solve just ask TelstraClear to let MAPS know they had it wrong. Not so apparently:

"Trend Micro have listed a large amount of our static IP space in their DUL. We are currently trying to get this removed from the DUL, but due to their conditions this could take some time. In the meantime, I'd suggest you use the paradise.net smtp server as a smarthost. I have checked their BL and this is allowed to deliver mail through the Trend Micro maps service." TestraClear help.

Yeah this issue has been driving me crazy for the last week or so too on a number of my client sites.

I've changed all clients to use the paradise or clear smarthosts to resolve without having spoken to TCL directly. Pleased to see that they've acknowledged the issue though.

This combined with the issues that most people are having with sending email to people with mail hosted with Xtra has made for some interesting times with email in the last wee while!

A couple of weeks ago I stopped using smtp.paradise.net.nz as a smarthost because it was listed on SORBS and my e-mails to Telecom NZ were bouncing...

Then last night my wife complained of her e-mails not going anywhere - I found out it was mostly to Xtra accounts, but others too, so I changed back to using smtp.paradise.net.nz as a smarthost.

If TCL didn't have their "official" servers blacklisted it would be easier for us to use it...

This has happened to me in the past too.

It seems to happen all to often to TCL, maybe they are not fast enough to get themselves unlisted, or maybe they need to remove the spammers.

First I vent my spleen to Trend Micro, after telling me to get my ISP to contact them:

To stop me coming and personally throttling you could you contact the owner of my IP address and confirm that it isn't dynamically assigned. See the email below yours [the email from TCL in my previous post] that might give some clue as to what a self rightous menance you lot are.

I should add that it is a particularly nice touch to suggest people contact you about incorrect listings in your database through an email address that bounces them because they are on your list.

It seems to me that if you could send an email from an authoritative account at TelstraClear to dul@mail-abuse.com saying that 202.78.149.234 is a static address and should not be listed in MAPS DUL that would help me greatly, regardless of whatever you might be doing.

Thank you for your comment, however this method does not work as previously tried.
We are currently working with Trend-Micro, to fulfill their somewhat unreasonable request. We expect to have them resolve the issue sometime next week.

I see Trend Micro has a NZ sales office in Auckland. If, as it appears, they won't correct a single incorrect entry in their database, then I can feel a bit of a campaign coming on against their products.

Would these issue raised here be related to one I have. It appears that TClear / Parardise is blocking me from getting to Lwww.lnkedin.com. I have checked out various forums and followed all the advise (checking hosts file, setting for antivirus, firewalls, etc) to no avail. TClear / Paradise say it's not them. Reading the post made me wonder if they could be the reason why I can't get to the site. Can anyone advise? Thanks

Thanks..yes..typo..should have been www.linkedin.com. I can go to work and get to it fine so I know its just me.

I cannot get to www.linkedin.com via my browser (IE). I can't ping it either. I have checked various forums and most say to check my hosts file to see if it is listed. It isn't. I have no firewall seetings restricting this site, can't find anything in my antivirus, can find anything in my IE settings under security or privacy that would prevent access. It appears to me that i is something that Paradise are doing but am not sure how it could be something they have done for just me. Looking at this topic made me wonder if it could be a TClear / Paradise issue. They say not. I don't know ehere else to look. Thanks

Just to close off on the original post, email from TCL:

We have been in communication with Trend Micro, the company behind the MAPS DUL list, and are happy to announce that the issue should now be resolved. If you have any further problems please send us a copy of the bounce back email and we will investigate the issue for you.

I think it was the throttling that did it.

Yeap MAPS should be pretty much resolved now, just a couple of small niggling issues with some static / dynamic netblocks, but should be ironed out soon. Pretty unreasonable request they had, first one we've come across with such a hefty undertaking to get whitelisted :\

Out of interest (kind of related): do those of you who run mail servers on cable (or DSL) have reverse DNS entries that correspond to your host name? Or do they work well enough with the default rDNS?

Well its good practice to have that done, as some receiving MTA's check rDNS and forward DNS before accepting mail.
If you need to have one done, flick me a PM with the IP and FQDN.
