Hello all

I want to buy a nokia 6288 from bond and bond.

I also want to go to the netherlands and elsewhere around europe and buy local sim cards.

Is this possible or do i need to unlock?

Vodafones handsets in New Zealand are NOT locked, regardless of where you buy them from. They have not been locked for years.

Are you certain of this?

The reason i ask is because when i called vodafone the guy said that it wouldn't work and i'd have to get it 'fixed' by a store. And then he said he didnt know of any himself.

Or was this some con to get me to go roaming?

It is NOT locked. You may need to set up PXT otherwise it is all ready to go.

He is correct in that there are onyl certain contries that you can auto-roam to on prepay.

For all other countries you need to register your credit card with Vodafone before you go overseas. With On-account you need to inform Vodafone that you wish to travel and use your NZ sim.

HOWEVER, if you are NOT going to use your NZ sim overseas, then you do not need to do anything. Just buy a simcard from whatever country you are going to, insert simcard and you are away laughing!

SIMs are cheap over there too.

I was just in Amsterdam and it was 7.5 euros for a SIM, and 5 euros of that was credit. Compare that to here - $35 and only five is credit (with an extra $10 if you register online).
