Hi there,

I've had a look around Geekzone and elsewhere for information on getting this up and running but haven't found any clear answers - if this is a double-post accept my apologies and any links to the answers would be much appreciated!

I'm in the process of moving to Xnet Fusion as per my thread here on GPForums and I wanted to get VFX setup first just to make sure everything was sweet before we made the jump (both with stability and with the household wiring).

Anyhow, I've confirmed with Xnet that the provisioning was completed on my line yesterday afternoon although I don't appear to be getting a dialtone from my ATA.

My network is setup with a Dynalink RTA1320 in half-bridge mode (infact, using IP Extension) running to an Xnet Linksys WRTP54G (it's got an Xnet sticker, purchased from Ingram Micro). NAT is disabled on the RTA and the WRT is doing the routing etc, I have full internet access and can connect to both devices' configuration pages. I've confirmed with Xnet that the MAC address they've got is correct but they can't seem to talk to the WRT at their end.

The guy on the help desk who I won't name has been very helpful but we couldn't figure out who's end the issue was at so I figured I'd confirm the problem wasn't at my end before I tied the helpdesk up any longer (I should add that I got straight through to the Help Desk after about three rings this afternoon, and it was less than 2 minutes waiting yesterday so looks like Xnet's customer service is back on track :D).

Anyhow, I've attached both the vital configuration information for both my RTA1320 and the WRT so if anyone has any ideas that'd be great.

Essentially I'm not getting a dialtone on the WRT and Xnet don't seem to be able to pick up my device from their end (though I'm connecting to the internet through it.)

Something definitely looks wrong here - if I recall correctly the WRTP54G should, if working correctly, pick up the time from the WxC servers?

Also, I should mention that I can't access the voice section of the router so it's definitely running some form of locked (and I assume Xnet) firmware.

EDIT: Whoops, looks like there's no BBcode here - fixed! :D

Also, sorry I didn't get the ticket number from Xnet - will grab it next time if it'd help!

Note you should never post your MAC address, it is a security risk. See if you can edit it.

I have the same setup as you, also running the Dynalink in half bridge mode. If you want, send your e-mail address via PM and we'll compare notes off-line. (Can still post the solution on-line.)

A couple of things, first Niel is right you shouldn't put your MAC address up here it can be a security risk.

Second you have not actually picked up a config from us I have gone back several days and your device has not pulled it's config yet or even contacted the provisioning servers.

So my suggestion would be intially if you can take your router out of half bridge mode and just connect the WRTP to the router directly, restart the wrtp and we can see if the device even tries to phone home, then we can go from there, it does appear I would say at this stage that is something to do with the setup as the request from the wrtp is just a http reguest so we should have at least seen it come online unless something is blocking it.

Interestingly the guy from Xnet yesterday said there was a WRTP with the mac address XX:XX:XX:XX:A6 present but mine was *:A7. Noticed on the LAN side mine is *:A6 so could it be that the half bridge setup is confusing things?

It's still *:A7 in the Dynalink's DHCP table (where it is assigned my external IP address, as I believe is to be expected when running in half-bridge mode), so I don't think this is the case - but thought it was worth mentioning.

The other thing which seems strange is the gateway address of the WRTP. The RTA's gateway is 58.28.15.31 which I understand to be a WxC server, but the router is given my IP address "plus one" so to speak. That is, I would've thought the gateway would've either been 10.1.1.1 (the modem) or, as would make more sense in half-bridge to me at least, 58.28.15.31.

I'm just flashing the firmware on the RTA1320 now to see if that makes a difference.

Had a quick go at setting the RTA1320 up as a router and just connecting the WRTP when I got home last night but couldn't give it a proper shot so might give that another go this morning.

I've re-uploaded the images with new names and changed the original post so they should be clean for you now :)

I tried setting the RTA1320 up as a router and just connected the WRTP using one of the switch ports and while the internet worked from my computer and I could access both devices, the WRTP didn't appear to pick up any of the DNS/gateway information etc, so that was no go.

Try RTA1320 as router into WAN port of WRT. Power off both devices, power on RTA, wait 1min for Internet to be up (PPPlight on), then power on WRT, wait 5min to let it do all it's stuff. See if that works.
NB: if you haven't already factory reset your RTA1320, do this first in case there is some odd config blocking something.

Can you PM your MAC address please as well as VFX phone Number, if you can include the contents of the EMail we sent you for VFX as well that would be good, Still don't see your device at this stage

Hmmm, that could be where the issue lies. If these are similar to the SPA2102, you should be able to connect the WAN port into the Internet connection. Make sure the WRT is set to receive its addressing dynamically form the RTA1320. Maybe a factory reset of the WRT is in order.

I haven't played round with a WRT yet, but my guess is they are based on the same engine as in the SPA2102's, but obviously with the added 4 ports & wireless.

Yes, that's exactly right. I have a WRTP54G and am using it with both Xnet and VFX.

In my case, I use PPPoE authentication, but in this case with Half-bridge Mode, the RTA1320 should handle that side of things, with the WRT getting its WAN port IP address assigned by the RTA1320.

Another option would be to change the RTA1320 back to being a router as others have suggested, and plug the WRT into a spare switch port on the RTA1320.

Whichever way you do it, the WRT's WAN port MUST connect to the RTA1320 or else the WRT's Voice Circuitry will never be able to access WxC's VFX servers.

The WRT's router should work OK no matter whether the RTA1320 is in Half-bridge mode or not. However, the Voice Circuitry of the WRT may not work properly with the RTA1320 being in router mode, as there would be Double-NAT happening.

If none of this helps, then I suspect that you have a fault with your RTA1320 because several other people are using a WRT together with an RTA1320 for VFX. Some of them are also using alternate firmware on the WRT such as DD-WRT or Tomato (I think it was?).

Thanks again for the advice everyone.

I've tried setting it up as similar to Grant_K's suggestion as possible. My RTA1320 only has a single ethernet port so I've connected that to a switch which connects to the WAN port of WRT.

This yields the following status in the router section:

Still no joy with the firmware upgrade however :(

I've also done this with another ADSL modem/router, a super-old Micronet SP3350A and the same result occurs. I can't seem to find a way to get it into half-bridge mode so can't compare there..

Where to from here?

Still see nothing coming through, it's possible you may have a faulty device I didn't thing so intially now not so sure.

Possibly a corrupt provisioning link? Try a full factory reset - paper clip in reset hole for 30 seconds plus. If that's successful (though some of these still seem to hold the VFX config), then it should allow access into the voice config, where you can re-enter the provisioning link:
