Hello.  I have a 13 year old cell phone with a 13 year old Vodafone prepaid (mini) SIM card.  Have been working perfectly all the time, and of course it is on 2G/GSM.

A couple of weeks ago I acquired a new mobile which uses micro SIM.  So I did a SIM swap.

The new SIM works fine on 3G, but not on 2G/GSM.  I always get "no service" if I choose 2G/GSM.  I put the new SIM back on the 13 old 2G phone and same thing, no service.

I am very keen on getting the 2G/GSM connection as eventually I want to use a dual SIM phone, with secondary SIM on GSM.

Wondering if anyone has seen this before?

Regards.

It's possible an off the shelf new SIM card will work in a 13yr old phone due to the different voltages of the SIM cards.

Interesting. Vodafone just announced they plan to shut down the 2G GSM service to voice users. Do you think they are going to start restricting access to GSM when a sim card upgrade is done?

does that mean I wont be able to call people on 2g with my vodafone phone.  Just at home 2G is all i have. All around 3G is available but we are in a blind spot
