I have been with Vodafone and VDSL for about a year now and during the installation, Chorus replaced my old internal and external telephone wall boxes. I used to have ADSL and this needed a plug-in filter, however the engineer told me that I did not now need this external filter, as there was a filter in the box (internal or external?).

For almost a year I have had no problems, however about 6 weeks ago, the whole neighbourhood lost its Internet connection for about 24 hours. I reported the fault and it was "repaired" by Chorus at the junction box. Since the repair, every time that I receive an incoming call on my landline (panasonic wireless phone), my VDSL connection goes down - specifically, I am unable to connect to the Internet, but my WiFi router is still good and I can connect to it wirelessly.

I suspect that the "repair" has changed something at the exchange - disconnected the master filter? Although, of course there could be a problem with my Panasonic phone, although this would be quite a coincidence. I have never experienced any sort of interference from this phone set with my connection, since I bought it (5+ years ago). Also, on the Vodafone web site there was a checklist of things to test before reporting and I have done these - this was a few weeks ago and I can't recall exactly what this entailed - and everything seemed to pass at my end. I then went away for a holiday and didn't pursue it.

As you can imagine, this is slightly annoying, but only slightly as I only get maybe one call a week on the landline, although the VDSL connection can take up to 10 mins to come back online, which can be painfully long.

Is my hunch that the "repair" has caused this likely? Is there a master filter in the exchange? Or has my phone decided to play up and it is a coincidence that the repair occurred around the same time?

Cheers

Rob

Sounds like you had a Master Filter installed as part of your VDSL install.

Log a fault with your ISP, chorus will fix it,. It is possible your filter is kaput I suppose.

The master filter will be at your demarc (where the line comes into your house) most probably. It is still Chorus' responsibility.

Just an update.

Everything is now okay and I did nothing - no complaint to Vodafone, no Chorus repair, no new telephone. Last week, I got a phone call and my SONOS continued to play my Apple Music (indicates that my connection to the Internet was still working)! I did some checks and numerous incoming calls later, it is still working.

I suspect that Chorus inadvertently repaired my problem when they were fixing something else at the exchange.
