Not sure if this is the right place for it but as I recently signed up to Fusion I thought I'd ask here.

I've just run these speedtests....

What I don't understand is if Fusion is FS/FS why do I get such a huge difference in speed?
Is it just Xnet or are all ISP's the same?
Prior to Xnet I had wireless that would deliver 2MB up AND down.

Also when I ran the tests it showed me as being in Chch but I'm actually in Northland!

Is the service is delivered over the copper lines? It's probably ADSL - asymmetrical DSL. The A part means the download speed is dramatically more than the upload.

More on ADSL here.

Apologies if it's not - in which case, I know nothing.

I think Paul is right it is ADSL which does mean you will get a faster download speed than upload and you will find that all ISPs that have ADSL will all have similar speeds. Also I dont think that body in that illustration on the speedtest doesnt change to show your location

Paul is right the technolgy used for DSL conections is currently ADSL , you do do not get a symmetricial service ie the same speed up and down which you were getting with your wireless provider.

Not that it really matters but I'm no where nearly 450 miles from Akl - more like 100

Full speed refers to the maximum speed the technology allows. ADSL has a maximum download speed of 8mb and an upload speed of ~800k.

Also the reason it shows you an incorrect distance is because it compares your ip address with a ip to location database. When your isp orders a pool of ip addresses, they need to specify where the client of each one is located. Because most isp's use dynamic addresses, its not always accurate. When i connect, the modem is given an ip address, from the isp, out of this pool which they may have said is given to someone in dunedin when in fact i am in napier. They could have randomly made up names of places when ordering the pool.
