Hi

Stupid question probably:

We have a STB, VCR, TV, cable to STB, RCA to VCA then RCA to TV.

We used to have to have the VCR turned on to get all the none FTA channels, for some reason we have lost all the none FTA channels even with the VCR on.

I tried retuning the VCR but it picks up the cable but only 1 channel. FTA channels still okay, any ideas.....?

You are confused or mistaken.

Given the VCR only has an analog PAL tuner it is only possible for the VCR to tune to the analog FTA channels (present on cable) + the single channel output from the set top box via the RF out (coaxial cable lead) at the set top box.

The only reason that the VCR would have had to switched on is the fact that it has an amplifier in between its RF in and RF out. It would need to be switched on at wall to pass RF to TV.

If using the RF out (via VCR) from set top box change the TVs channel to one that shows set top box channel and change set top box channel with set top box remote. EDIT: You may need to tune TV to set top box RF out.

If using AV out from set top box (rca leads connected to TV) change TV to appropriate AV input and then change channel via set top box remote.

Another possibility is that you were watching the set top box via the AV input from VCR (rather than use AV leads from set top box directly to TV). This would explain why VCR needed to be turned on at front panel BUT you still have to change set top box channels with the set top box remote. You would have been watching FTA channels via TV tuner.
