Hello
After some advice on how to get a resolution to loss of internet speed in the rain . One question I had , what do people use for speed test , is answered in the sticky with vodafone speed test . I will try this next time , I have been using speed test net by Ookia .
For the last 6 months or so with reasonably heavy rain our broadband speed drops to an indicated , well lets just say an erratic 20 Mbps at best and devices start to not work . In reality this varies from about 6 to 18 and the ping is above 30 usually . One test I did resulted in 12 Mbps , but that seems to be due to a spike on the little graph on the speed test . The rest of the test would have been 3 or 4 at best . On a normal day we get aleast 48 and its steady with a ping around 15 , I realize this is above the average . I believe the issue is more its very erratic causing the continual hit and miss connection .
I called Vodafone to lodge an issue . The lady on the phone insisted we had a connection speed of 52Mbps when I was getting no more than 20 (had run more than 20 tests by now) and that with our distance from the exchange we should see no more than 22Mbps . I asked why I was only seeing 20 and was told it could be an issue with my computer , fair enough I can understand it could be , however without the rain I consistently get 48 to 52 and I am not in the habit of leaving my laptop out in the rain . Trying to explain I normally see her claimed 52 got me nowhere . She basically said her speed test was 52 and even if it was around the 20 that I said , it was still within acceptable limits . She said it must be a modem issue and wanted to remote into the modem to change settings , she was going to call back and do this but she never called . After a day or two it was back to its usual 48+Mbps . Until the next heavy rain and winter is coming .
So has anyone had a similar issue and how did you get it resolved , what was the issue ? I believe the cable to the house , or in the house , is getting wet but I am trying to keep an open mind .
Does everyone get the speed vodafone say they get ? Any advice ? I cant get Chorus to look at the line until vodafone lodge an issue .
The last time I had a problem with the line to the house it took me some time to get the internet provider ( I cant remember if it was voda then so assume not ) to lodge a fault with chorus . Lets just say I nearly used words I should not have when I said "would you like me to send you a picture of the two ends of the line the digger has just dug through" , this was after a 45 minute conversation on the issue might be the modem , it might be my computer despite me stating a digger has gone through the line several times etc etc etc . Crazy system , some digger digs up the cable , not on my property and I have to log a fault with my phone provider before chorus will come out .
Sorry bit of a rant , any advise would be good .
Thanks
Chris
