I have an AT & T Samsung with the following problem:

Under the Mobile Networks menu, the phone does not allow the selection 2g, 3g, 4g/LTE etc . Instead it just allows Mobile data and enhancedLTE services to be ticked

If I look further ...under Device Info, it has the following options: WCDMA preferred, GSM only, WCDMA only,,CDMA only, CDMA auto Ev/Do only, GSM/CDMA, LTE/CDMA,LTE/GSM, LTE/GSM/CDMA, LTE only

After many trials, I found that none of these settings enables the phone to automatically select the best radio channel for either calls or the internet...except that the phone does its best to hang onto GPRS and some 4g signals only when set to WCDMA preferred

Any of the other settings if selected , even if it the phone shows a strong signal connection,( eg. 4G) .....network calls made to the phone simply don't connect....and there is no no ringing indication.

I am unfamilar with the impact of APN settings..but is it possible that even though the phone is unlocked, that some other settings might enable it to operate happily on Vodafone NZ's great network? Or am I in a dark space with this phone?

Hi Linux,

Any chance you can give me a clue as to the cause of the restrictions. Is because of the radio channel info that was flashed into the AT & T phone?

A bought a Verizon LG G4 to muck around with which in order for it to work I had to manually input my providers APN settings (mms and internet) and now works good, can get 4g and everything else that goes with it, if you haven't tried that then it's worth a shot

I've learnt a lot but not enough to really understand whats going on.

However Linux might walk me through the APN settings..although my understanding was that the S7 with a good Sim card would auto load the correct APN details.

What I was able to deduce was the as the phone stands at the moment some of the network settings must have a restricted bandwidth, because its possible to receive some inward network calls, while others just don't reach the phone...and I can understand that because the cell site gear allocates different time/freq slots for each and every call.

MMSC is what handles MMS / PXT on the network side so close enough

The link above will take you a page you can SMS the settings to your mobile number and install them, At the end of the day you only need 2 APN's for internet access and MMS / PXT

Had to flag the AT&T phone....even with it set on 4G LTE/GSM...it behaved erratically, even in strong 4G areas...internet access was all good, but network calls just encountered nothing...no ringing indication ..no sound at all...just nothing..

Not a recommended import....best units are either from France or the UK.
