Hey, I'm on the xnet torrent plan and up until about 1 month ago, I've been getting the green tick in utorrent. Now i'm getting the red triangle (not connectable). I'm connecting wirelessly to a Linksys wireless router. A friend told me I do not have to forward ports when I'm connecting through wifi, Is this true? If so, why was I getting the green tick before?
Port forwarding is the act of forwarding a network port from one network node to another. This technique can allow an external user to reach a port on a private IP address (inside a LAN) from the outside via a NAT-enabled router.
Nothing to do with being on WIFI or cabled to the router, if there is a port foward setup there is a way for the torrent packets to reach your machine. Not sure why you were getting the green tick before, maybe uTorrent was getting confused? Or it thought it had a connection when really it didn't?

If you have been getting the green tick using the same setup it should be fine. You dont normally need to forward ports because uTorrent uses something called UPnP which dynamically selects the port it wants to use (i think). You just need to, a) check your modem/router support this feature, and b) if it does, turn it on, if it doesnt, set a staic port in uTorrent and do a port forward to the port on your modem.
my router supports uPnP and I've enabled it. It's working perfectly now...btw this is so much easier than port forwarding, why doesn't everybody use it ?
