Hi,
I'm getting close to supplanting the normal hardline to the house with the VFX line, one thing that I would like to get working (must admit haven't tested it though) is emergency dialling. I'm using a reasonably out-of-the-box trixbox setup, and was wondering what settings people use for ensuring that 111 calls are handled correctly.

Just have an outbound route that appears before everything else (so it doesnt get caught up in another rule that takes any number beginning with 111 AND any number beginning with your outside line code and 111.

e.g. if you dial 9 to get out, then you probably want to pick up 111 and 9111.
If you dial 1 to get out, you would want to pick up 111 and 1111.

Make sure the router only uses trunks that have access to 111 in New Zealand, e.g. if you have a FWD or Gizmo or other SIP trunk, do not include those in the list of available trunks for the route.

I beleieve some users have had no problem testing 111 setups and politely explaining that they are doing so to the operator.

What do you have your outbound dialplan set to at present? Do you just use VFX as your only provider?

Yeha, VFX is the only provider , and the dial plan for the outbound route is "9|."

The first thing to do is get rid of the 9|. for outbound calls. This is just ugly and completely unnecessary.

I'm a bit busy at work at present but will reply later with a some suggestions.

Thanks, I've got rid of the "9|" so the plan is now just "."

Much better, never did like having to dial 9 to get out.

I have different codes for differnt trunks, my 3 2talks and my italk, as well as orbtalk for my london number. I did have a sanfransisco number but I think the provider went broke or something because it stopped working.

I am guessing that the dialing rules would let me use a 111 after the outside line prefix to make the call. Its not being an issue for me.

More of a problem has being the dialplan on the ata's, since I cant 1*72xxxxxxx to do call foward on the cordless on the ata. Works on the hardphones tho so no biggy.

This allows most common numbers through - you might have others you want to add. 029 is an obvious ommission but more about that below.

You can just leave the plan empty if you only have a single provider, since I also have an Australian DDI I have another dislplan for that that uses

If I make a call that is 03 and 7 digits long it's a NZ number. If it's 03 and 8 digits it's routed via Faktortel. There some obvious clashes (with 02 9xxxxxx being in Sydney) so I don't have this as have a few numbers there I call.

Since we call Aussie far more often than NZ it makes things simple. If you have a Linksys ATA or phone you also need to be aware of the diaplan in these devices and the limitations it may impose. You do really need to edit these as well depending on exactly what you want to do.
