Hi, our quality in the last month or so has gone real bad.  Scorch is our ISP, speed seems fine there.  Using SPA2102, but made no changes.  Just to eliminate a few things, have moved the router far away from the computer.  Also tried a corded phone (over the cordless), no changes.  There is the odd clear(ish) phone call, but not many.  Any ideas?  Thanks.  Adrian

I haven't noticed any audio quality issues here.
 
Have you tried contacting the WxC helpdesk? They would be able to have a look at any calls that you find are bad and look at the packet data to see if it's going missing between you and WxC.

Hi Aadawson,

It appears that you are suffering from packetloss and large amounts of jitter, I would suggest touching base with Scorch to see if they can put in some prioritization and a CIR (committed information rate) for your connection.  We see this over a number of wireless solutions, and unfortunately there is nothing we can do.

These are some stats from one of your calls:

P-RTP-Stat: PS=4764,OS=94112,PR=4505,OR=90100,PL=92,JI=6,LA=0,DU=95,EN=G729a,DE=G729a

PL = Packet Loss
JI = Jitter

Yes we have had the same problem using Scorch. The internet has been great but the VFX quality is sporadic. Would going completely through WorldXChange and the Kordia network solve these issues? We would also be interested in installation costs of this.

Yes, in all probability it would.  We have been using VFX via the Kordia network for over 2 years now and the voice quality has been consistently excellent throughout that time.

The choice of ISP also has some bearing on VFX quality during heavy downloads.  Xnet Xtencity implements QoS (VFX prioritisation) on incoming audio so you don't lose any packets regardless of other network traffic.  I have tried 3 different ISPs now with my Kordia connection.  Here is how I would rate them in order of VFX call quality experienced:

1)  Xnet Xtencity.  Because they implement QoS in both directions, VFX call quality is the best available over wireless.  However, if you want more speed than 256kbps, the price becomes prohibitive, so I reluctantly said goodbye to Xnet after a year.

2)  NetSpeed.  There is no QoS on incoming audio, however their plans are much more reasonably priced than Xnet.  So, I have the fastest available plan with 1Mbps download, and this solves the problem with incoming VFX audio in 99% of cases.  The downstream link is fast enough that it is hardly ever saturated, so audio packet loss very seldom occurs.  Kind of a brute-force solution, but it works, and we get pretty damn fast internet for a remote area not served by ADSL.

3)  ICONZ.  Prices are also prohibitive for all but the slowest (256kbps) plan.  Because no QoS of any kind is implemented, we did experience frequent dropouts on incoming VFX audio.

comstar: We would also be interested in installation costs of this.

ORCON have a special offer going here for $449.  However, their charges are expensive for all but the slowest 256kbps plan.

NetSpeed also have a special offer going but it was scheduled to expire last Friday.  If you talk nicely to Stan, he might be able to squeeze you in though.  Here are the details:

*  Free Connection for the first 3 months

*  $300 subsidy on the Extend Radio (reducing cost from $600 to $300).

*  Installation cost from $250 to $450 depending on area.

Still quite expensive I know, but NetSpeed are the best wireless ISP I have experienced, both on service provided and raw connection speed vs. $ spent.
