does anyone know if there is a way to remove the simlock off a phone without paying vodafones fees for doing it? I'm planning to buy a nokia 5610 soon but may want to get another providers sim to use in it sometime down the track.

Unless of course the poster is in Aussie like their flag shows. Vodafone AU do lock handsets.

There are other ways to unlock handsets but Vodafone AU only charge $25 to do this online which makes hardly makes it worth the effort looking elsewhere.

i thought that vf nz started locking handsets a while ago? but if not, then thats fine too. makes my life more simple.

As has been discussed elsewhere on the forums, they did start but after a few days scrapped it. Any that were locked during that time can be unlocked.

I bought a Vodafone (au)SE W880i that was prepaid last year in Oz for $199 and unlocked it for free by going to there web site and entering the imei.
I was quite surprised that I did not have to pay the $75 to get the unlock code ... I also suspect that this does not work with all of there prepaid phones.

yes, what is this flag? I live in new zealand and have for all my life. I can't see any flags

Ok, we used to show flags that would tell other users where you are posting from (based on an IP address database lookup). We found that in periods of high transaction volume the flags were causing delays because of the number of database accesses and IP address translation.

Since we have a new bigger server I am restoring the flags - but only for users that are logged in. If you are not logged in the flags won't show up.

Note that some ISP will show as AUS even though they are based in NZ. And Telecom CDMA will show as USA. I have no control over the contents of this IP database and have to rely on the updates we receive.
