Newbie in this forum - long story short - I have a colleague who recommended me to xnet and am looking at subscribing at long last to broadband. I am tossing between InspireNet (local ISP in PN) and xnet. I have read most of the postings re xnet performance and wary of what I have read so far. Our usage would likely be isolated to youtubing, usual surfing, 2 teenagers who like to view anime flv, online gaming and mostly high usage on weekends and holidays. Weekdays pretty light apart for homework and after work surfing. (Xnet cheaper but not good feedback so far but fusion package looks attractive, InspireNet top regional ISP but more expensive)

I have 3 ADSL lines and all 3 are with Inspire, I used to use xnet but I ended up having too many problems with congestion and slowness, just read the forums to find out the problems people have been having, im sure they will sort out their sh*t soon enough but my votes for Inspire as I have had no issues with any of the 3 lines they supply for over 2 years.

Do you have any idea how much data you use per month currently?

Anyway you're really comparing:

Telecom phone line + Inspire ADSL plan
vs
Xnet Fusion

Lets assume you use 30gb per month and you want Fullspeed download and Fullspeed upload (FS/FS) rather than
FS/128k, you'll basically save ~$20 per month with Xnet in that situation, the more data you use per month the more you'd save on xnet, the less data you use the closer inspire comes.

It does sound like you mostly use the net in peak time, which is known to be pretty problematic on xnet performance wise. It really comes down to: Is fast reliable internet performance worth $20 extra per month to you? Do you/your kids get annoyed when youtube movies have to buffer for 10min before you can play them?

If you want good speed at most time definitely not Xnet !

Xnet had frequent mini outages too (the new hardware could have fix this issue).

Also depend whether you are a heavy user or not !

I would suggest looking elsewhere at the moment, xnet have been having speed problems now for almost a year and either have buried their head in the sand or have implemented a fix that takes a reeeeeeally long time to work.

Some still get reasonable speeds with them but have a trawl through the forums and you will get an idea of what has been going on.

You specifically mention youtube, I couldn't stream youtube at all 7 months ago when I was with xnet, took about 2 mins to buffer. I changed to vodafone and hey presto instant change and no more problems.

If inspire is your local ISP then I highly recommend them. Bloody good helpdesk (one of the few that can compete with xnet for customer service).
