If you are referring to t-stick this is a CDMA device and does NOT have a sim card. Vodafone is GSM/UMTS and uses sim cards so probably your best bet if travelling.

although of course Telecom now has sim enabled sticks on the XT network which work the same way as the voda one.
http://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/mobilebroadband/devices?nv=sd

Neither company SIM locks which means both should work with a UK sim in them.

Data prices in NZ are pretty close for both, voda is a bit cheaper than XT on postpaid on a temr contract, but if you go prepaid and get the topup bonus Telecom is cheaper than voda post or pre.

e.g.

Voda for a 1GB plan on postpaid charges $59.95 for no term (or $49 on 24 month contract)
with an extra GB for $10
prepaid they charge $40 for a 1/2 GB plan.

Telecom charge $54.95 for 1GB plan on post or prepaid, with an extra GB for $15. (no monthly discount for taking term contract, but you do get discount off the stick itself)

However, if you go prepaid on Telecom and top up $60 at a time, you get bonus credit of $20, effecitvely a 25% discount on whatever you buy.
So, if you go prepaid 1GB on XT, it effectively costs you only $41 with an extra GB for $11. This, I believe, is the cheapest option in NZ for mobile BB at the moment.
