Hi all, I'm a long time reader, first time poster.

Picked up my iPhone 3GS this morning, works fine except I get an error "Cannot activate cellular data network pdp authentication failure" whenever I try and access the 3G data network (email, internet) on the handset.

The APN is set to www.vodafone.net.nz

Is this an account problem (i.e. do I have to call Vodafone), something that will clear in time with a new account, or wrong settings on the phone?  Google seems to tell me it might be an account issue, but wanted to double check here to see if anyone else had the same problem.  If anyone else has had this problem, how did you resolve it?

Thanks in advance.

Tried that - also tried www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz and web.vodafone.net.nz and haven't had any luck. Still comes up with the same error.

Tried hard reset - still no luck.

Called the store I bought it from, they gave me the number for iPhone customer support (0800 700 787 for those interested).  Sat on hold for a few minutes, spoke to a very helpful person who said that they were currently having problems with prepay customers switching over to the iPhone plans, and it may take up to 24 hours to activate the data.  I was told to ring back tomorrow lunchtime if it still wasn't working then.

So I guess if other people have that problem the moral is to check your settings, then wait 24 hours with your fingers crossed.

Data worked fine when I woke up this morning, I must have been one of the unlucky ones with the prepay/account problem.

If you have done a prepay to postpay migration with your MSISDN mobile data will start to work after 2am following morning
