Does anyone know how to upload MP3s to a V550 using a Mac?

I can see the Audio directory using Bluetooth but it seems that it's not a simple matter of uploading an MP3 to this directory. Obviously while Motorola claims that the phone can handle MP3s the MP3s are not a standard MP3. In fact using the software that comes with the USB upload cable it is clearly doing a conversion of some sort.

Does anyone know of any software capable of doing this conversion on a Mac? I can't use Virtual PC to upload this as the software won't pick up the phone.

Does the Motorola V550 support the MP3 format

It says that it does which is why I'm annoyed that you can't upload a file into the Audio folder via Bluetooth.

You have to watch out sometimes with the line "MP3 compatible" because while it technically handles MP3s it might only be on the synch software which then converts it into a format the phone can handle.

However, the files are definately MP3 because I can pull them back off the phone and play them in iTunes with no hassles.

There is something in the phone that is preventing a Bluetooth upload from a Mac. There has been some mention of creating a Windows compatible version of an MP3 but I fail to see how an MP3 is any different on Windows than it is on Mac as MP3 is supposedly a standard format.

Have you read the hand book to make sure its not bloacked on the handset firmware

Didn't really see anything about it.

This problem wouldn't be so much of an issue only the software won't work on my Windows XP machine. I know there is an update but I can't download the update because I don't have Internet at home, save for my cellphone which is rather ironic. There doesn't seem to be a manual download option which I could download using my Mac then copy to a key drive to the XP machine.

The phone is great and does everything I want it to do but the software available for it is pathetic. BVR has to be the most worthless software ever developed. I've used it on other phones as well.

Motorola aren't doing themselves any favours by not supporting Macs or sticking to standards.

Plenty of phone manufacturers dont support macs with their software, and plenty dont stick to standards too...

Annoying I know - but Moto is not the only culprit.

You need a Mac program called iSync.. does all your syning needs with Mobile Phones :)

How does this help in this particular situation? It's my understanding that iSync handles only calendar and address book syncronisation.

I remembered it [iSync] on 10.3 (might be on 10.2 but haven't used it as my system came with 10.3).

The latest version will only work with Tiger, but you can run older versions on Jaguar and Panther. The limitation of the older versions is in the device support, although I used to sync my Sony Ericsson T610 with iSync on Jaguar, and it worked fine.

I remember having to upgrade to tiger just for official support for my P910. I could get it running on the 10.3 version by modifying certain files but it was patchy at best.

I heard that Motorola support is still horrible with some phones not supported outright, others with only USB cable support.

Just off-hand question... Have you tried just sending the file rather than uploading via 'Browse device' window? Just a little thing I have had with my SE handsets.

Agreed. iSync doesn't upload MP3s only the calendars/tasklists and addressbook entries. This is no problem because that side works fine.

The least Motorola could do is release specs to companies such as this:

So that they can provide a Mac solution. I'd pay for this software so that I never have to use my Windoze PC ever. :)
