Hi there

Basically I'm wondering which would be the better of the two, assuming we can get cable at our new flat, (apuka st, brooklyn, wellington). Does anyone know what slingshots speeds are around that area?

Both are 80 a month
Cable = Fast 10Mbs/2Mbs (in theory)
Slingshot = Free download after 2am till 8am but don't know speeds, I think we can get adsl2+ where we live

We dont need calls and speed is used for gaming, downloading is nice but not required (20GB will do us fine)

If anyone has any experince in brooklyn with either of these plans any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't need/have a land line I would consider Maxnet naked ADSL (they call it pure DSL), it's $84/month for 20GB.

I would chose Maxnet over Telstra because:

They peer at APE/WIX so local NZ content ie: TVNZ on demand, anything on CityLink, anything from a host that also peers at APE and also YouTube (from Orcon's google caches connected to APE) will be faster than on Telstra.

Telstra have had well known performance problem with youtube for a few months now.

I would chose Maxnet over Slingshot because:

They have a NZ helpdesk staffed with technicians/engineers not outsourced call center drones. They have a large amount of capacity with various transit providers. Basically I believe they have better ratio of capacity to customers than Slingshot and Slingshot tends to attract customers that are large downloaders.
