Hey all,

Just been reading the sticky abt overseas mobiles and possible issues using them in NZ. Just wondering if anyone has any experience of the other way around?

Recently got a 5800 (lovely phone, IMO)  thru Vodafone, and we're travelling to the UK later this year - I'm keen not to have to use my NZ Sim over there for roaming calls, hoping that I can get away with a UK PAYG SIM.

Does anyone know if the 5800 is NZ Voda locked? The packaging that the phone came in shows no signs of Vodafone branding, nor does the phone itself.

I did a few searches on the forum, and got a few results about debranding, but nothing really definitive - it does seem that Voda branded and locked their phones back in 08, but nothing really more recent than that.

I have tried my old UK SIM, and I get SIM registration failed, but to be fair, the SIM was cancelled before I left for NZ (twas never PAYG but a contract), and the exact same message occurs using my UK handset with said SIM - this sounds positivish?

Thanks for any help y'all can shed!

Leo

Yip no handsets are locked so there will be no issues using it over there. You will just need to set the APN if you want to use data but most SIM cards will attempt to automatically provision these on the phone these days.
