Has anybody noticed any internet filter in place for certain illegal software sources by Vodafone which are still accessable by other ISPs such as Telecom. I am not talking about the recent filtering of child pornography!!!

Please reply, I am quite tired of using proxies!

If Vodafone were blocking "malicious software" with filtering software then you'd think they'd also block "proxy avoidance" sites as well - otherwise why would you bother!

That said, Vodafone do run transparent proxies on certain APN's and certain protocols.

As I understand it, these are mainly used for content adaptation for mobile handsets.

To be dropping requests to malicious software sites would imply the introduction of filtering software in addition to the transpartent proxies.

When you say you can't reach these sites what sort of error are you getting? A timeout? A 404? This would probably help indicate where your request is going wrong and whether VF is doing it or it's elsewhere.

It would be interesting to know what layer any blocking is happening at....a transparent proxy will typically filter at Layer 7 whereas the DIA filter is done at BGP/routing level.

I get a connection timed out but not a page displayed from the server itself but from my browser. I have also tried a Tracert in Command Prompt to the server which resulted with no response. This leads me to think that maybe it is an issue with Vodafone, as usually blockages would be from a law change. Hense all ISPs would have to comply with the blockage, while this is only in affect with Vodafone and possibly only my area.

Where does the traceroute stop?
