I have an iPhone plan but have to change to a Telecom blackberry plan for work purposes.

I went into a Vodafone shop and asked if my iPhone plan can be changed to my wifes phone number (since her phone needs replacing and to avoid termination fee) and was told this was not a problem.

I have now been advised that this cant be done because when the phone numbers were first issued, they were 'prepay' numbers, not 'on account' numbers.

Vodafone are refusing to waive the termination even though we will resign upto a contract for the iPhone.  i will refuse to pay so will see where the stand off ends up.

I dont understand why their system differentiates between 'prepay' numbers and 'on account' numbers, especially since the number is meant to belong to the customer.  Seems to be an easy way on their part to generate termination fees.

they did the same kind of thing to me

So i got smart. (this is when i had a iphone)

I ended my plan to goto telecom, found out i hate telecom so went to go back to vodafone on a new contract.
I asked them as i have only been gone for 1 week if they would wave the termination fee if i signed up for another 2 years, they said NO

So, I took the money from the termination fee ($500 or so and at this stage had not been billed on my last invoice) and signed up on a new contract and got a new iphone (iphone was only like 400 on the plan i wanted).

I then sold the new iphone on trademe for just under a $1000, so used $500 to pay there termination fee. so after all that it was break even :)

A little bit of a loop hole.

I would see if you can cancel your new contract (don't you have 30 days to cancel or something) signup again get a new iphone then sell it.
