Hi guys,

I was just wondering what the general consensus about the speeds/latencies of Vodafone's broadband were (regular, not red network). I'm currently in a fairly decent part of Auckland with an 18mbps ADSL2+ sync speed and I have no problems with xtra or speeds.

However, on VF I could double my data (30 + 30GB) which would work out better than 40GB+ $2/gig that I'm paying with xtra as I'd probably use 60ish. I realise it's not much, but I think I'm able to also factor in a discount with VF to make the deal even sweeter. However, given some of the nasty download speed posts I've seen in here recently I was wondering if this would be something that I would regret (ie. under 1MB/s in torrents/p2p etc or unplayable WoW latency/dropouts?).

I'm also apparently due for a VDSL2 upgrade in december if that factors in for anything  (I'm not that fussy about speeds; I just want something reasonable or similar to what I have now)

I am bumping this thread as I am interested to hear from anyone who is using Vodafone broadband and can comment on the non red zone performance around the speeds and latencies.

Do they suffer the same international failures that Orcon suffer, do they match the speeds that Telecom offer?

The Vodafone Ultimate package deal seems to be a great value for what is on offer.
-Home phone
-30gb FS/FS
-MySki HD
-Unmetered iSky
-30gb datablock for $30.60

Totalling $130.60 per month.

So please, if you can share your experiences here, that would be great

this is a slap in the face!

I just logged on to the forums to see if anyone else was having VF connection problems, because my connection is atrocious this evening and has been a bit slow during the last few days.  I was previously on telecom and had very fast, solid connections but on changing to VF took a real speed drop.  After a few weeks, this was sorted out and had good speeds (~15Mbps).  Currently, speedtest.net is timing out during the ping test though

Mine was absolutely terrible last night. pings to vodafone went to 7500 ms. Pages wouldn't load. Restarted modem and it seemed to come right for a few minutes and then went downhill again.
Same thing happening tonight.. 2nd night in a row. Can't open gmail. pages on geekzone taking a couple of minutes to load.

Same here, Ping is terrible local and international. Local speeds ok, but international are terrible

I am experiencing the same behavior and so is another friend of mine.  The whole reason I came on this forum was to see if anyone else was experiencing the same thing.

Yes, mine too went from good to awful soon after resetting the router and posting the good spped test result above.  They seem very erratic at the moment, especially in the evenings.  I never experienced this with Telecom.  Makes me think that VF have insufficient backhaul from the exchanges, or too high a contention ratio.

Thanks for the replies guys, doesn't seem like it would be worth moving from Telecom with such bad reviews, even if they have a good deal going on.

Yep same with me too - I have lodged a fault with Vodafone via email and can confirm there's a bit of a issue somewhere. It's not just you - don't worry :P

Further to this, I wander if this is due to Telecom's bit rate or speed limitations that are provided to the wholesale customers...

Are you guys connected to wholesaled cabinets or connected to the exchanges where Vodafone have their own gear?

Absolutely appalling ping again tonight. There must be a big fault somewhere for so many to be experiencing this.
