I am on a smart plan, I am very careful about my data usage usually keeping it to around 200MB / month.

It has just come to my attention that the 3GB data offer has been extended longer then I originally thought. At the beginning of my plan.

Basically what I didn't want to happen was I get used to having a 3GB cap and them to suddenly change it to what is stated in the plan (250MB), and have to drastically change my usage habits.

But if this much higher data cap is going to be continued for many more months, then maybe I can relax a little about it.

What is comes down to is, does anyone know when the generosity form Vodafone on this is going to end?

the chepest smart plan with the 3GB bonus is $40.85 per month.
2GB of mobile broadband costs over $50.

Can I take this plan, stick the SIM in a mobile BB stick and use the data that way?
it would save me ~$10/month and I would get 50% more data.

yea the T's & C's say that Vodafone can stop the extra data at any time. Which would drop you back to the stated data cap in the plan, mine is 250MB.

you can put your sim into a stick (I had to do it to install kies on a pc with no internet connection) but you have to sign a 24 month contract to access these plans and saying that we dont know how long this 3gb complementry addon is going to last, I hope for ever it feels like i am living overseas again with this  amount of data available.

The only thing that annoys me is my plan only says i have 250mb of data to use on the usage page and is showing I have used it all, my two friends have the same plan and it shows the full 3gb but I am happy with the data provided.

lets hope vodafone carry it on for the forseeable future I don't want to have to go to McDonalds to use the wifi all the time.

Just get stuck into it and worry about the if's and but's if they decide to stop it.

No point holding yourself back and denying yourself the joys of mobile data if you dont need to.

So far Im averaging 1.6Gb a month with the podcasts I download, apps I install etc and its brilliant to be using a smartphone how it was intended to be used.

Enjoy it while it lasts I say.

I can advise Vodafone have no end date for the 3gig & 1000 PXT promo on the smart / iphone plans at this stage

I will say your safe for a while and we will give 30 days notice before the offer ends

problem is that you are asking people to sign up for 24 months when part of the plan (arguably the most important part) could end within 30 days of them signing up and drop you down to 250MB with overage charged at $266/GB

There is a fix on the way for the issue that stops customers on smart plans seeing their 3GB (customers on smart for iPhone should see it ok). Once your next billing period kicks off you should start seeing the data.

Kind of reminds me of Telecoms $10 txt promotion. How long was it before they started extending it by the year?

You may be right.... give people too much free stuff and they just want too much more free stuff... and complain that they might no get it.

They're damned if they don't and now damned that they do.
Still it's luck you have the choice to decide if you want something free or not.....
