I bought a black motorola v3x off ebay from italy for 600, best phone i have bought so far but not worth the 900+ in shops.
Tried using vodafone live and got the gay text only version and no 3g content.
Thought about it,
can't be a sim card issue because i can make video calls, can't be the make/ model because they sell it in the shops
so it must be information thats read off my phone that doesn't match vodafone settings, like a flex os software version.

I found a document that details all the SOFTWARE versions on every possible vodafone phone and realised there was a mismatch
with my phone vs the standard v3x settings. the pretext says software versions must match else content may not work.

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/mobiles/network_approved_phones_vs_software.pdf

would this be the reason i can't get 3g menus or even pictures on vodafone live?

any idea where i can find software updates for motorola?

cheers

Yes, Because you have imported or purchased an imported handset, the software will be different from the Vodafone approved/branded software they tend to put on handsets.

I wouldn't expect any support to be provided from either Vodafone or Motorola in regard to that. You might be able to find someone who could reflash your phone with the local firmware here. I know Muppet used to do that kind of thing - not sure if he is still doing it and if he does Motorola handsets.

When purchasing imported handsets, you need to weight up the 'savings' you obtain from the purchase price, with the loss of features, loss of support and the cost of trying to get those features reinstated.

Of course you can access Voda Live! 3G services without upgrading/changing the firmware on your V3x. But i really can't tell, due to some legalities here. Anyways, good luck in finding the softwares you need. But i tried it many times, and it worked. So i can assure you there's a way to do it.
