Made a phone call to Vodafone last night complaining that my data usage seems extremely high. Lady said that they have had similar complaints over recent days but i feel like i have been going through my data really quickly over the last few months. Any similar experiences out there?

Have you scanned your PC using something like Malwarebytes? (Only good for windows)

No sure why you would your service provider cause you are using more data though

Pretty confident that my PC is Malware free and that no one has managed to crack my WIFI password of course all of these are possibilties. What i am implying is the data "metering" has been incorrect over the last few months.

I was just wondering the same, i am about to call them today and tell them that my last month and this month has been fairly high and i dont think i have used my internet that much more than i used to, it shows that am doing more than a gig a day, my computer is scanned and all.

What did vodafone say when you called them and told them about this?

Thanks

CS agent was really nice she said that there had been similar complaints and after a brief time on hold she said there apperead to be something wrong with my data usage and that she needed to talk to a manager to look at wiping some of the data i had used ( we were looking specifically at the last few days where it said i had used 24gigs in 48hrs rather than the looking at the last few months). She said she would email me with more information but as yet i still havent gotten an email and i will have to get home to check if any data has been refunded yet. I have 2 other friends with similar storys now with extra usage appearing over this last weekend 16/4 - 18/4.

I have just had a business customer call and say they had used over 50GB, including 7GB in one day when they clearly didn't. My work colleague has just said he knows 3 or 4 people with the same issue....this surely must be a Vodafone metering issue??

This happened to me also, They said I used 18GB in one day.

When I rang, They put 20 GB back on my account.

They have real problems with there system. We had no internet all day on Sunday.

Jilt, do you make PC-to-PC calls with Skype by chance?
I swear it keeps using my connection, even after ending a call.
(I'm with Xnet though)

@ Chris: I use skype quite a bit my skype use hasnt seen any great increase over the last 12 months. Interested to know if there is any "residue" internet use after shut down.

Another friend with unusual data usage  called Vodafone and they admitted a billing issue but said that he wasn't affected by it and the extra use was at his end.

One thing to note is I am currently over my limit and havent been slowed down.... yet

Have you made a few Skype calls over the past 2 weeks? (this is when my weird bloated usage started)

I use DU Meter to monitor my usage. And normally it's spot on with what my ISP reports.

But for the past ~2 weeks, if I make a Skype call, I end up with a gigabyte or two of unaccounted data being used for that day. It's like my computer's data monitoring program, DU Meter, doesn't detect certain data? (haven't gotten around to packet sniffing to see if DU Meter is really missing out on anything though)
I think I'm being hit with heaps of UDP packets for an hour or two after the call is finished, and they're just getting rejected or something, but still counting towards my usage of course.

But on the days where I don't make Skype calls, there's no weird data increase.
Not 100% sure if this is related or not, but yeah. (sorry if I'm rambling :p)

Interesting info Chris
No more Skype than usual but i did update to the latest skype version recently. I would use skype daily so that could explain my daily usage jumping so much when comparing last few months to my previous 12 months. Also Steam ingame Voice client gets quite a bit of use on my high usage days.

I have queried it also. I have just switched from the worlds worst ISP (Slingshot) and had not gone over 10gig a month however on Vodafone it went in a week. And I hadn't downloaded any music or tv either so something sure isn't right. Will wait and see.

I also had a major "blow out" on the data meter. Did some tests & data meter was indicating 10 times what I actually used! Was going to complain when I received this email....

Incorrect data usage reporting in April.

Between the 10th and 27th of April you may have been affected by an issue where our systems reported you as having used more data than you actually had.

As a result you may have incorrectly received an email during this time saying you were near or at your data allowance limit and then purchased an additional data block.

Because of this we have removed the charge for the one-off Double Your Data block that you added to your account.

This deferred invoice amount has been removed in our system so you will not be charged for it on your next invoice.

If you purchased a Double Your Data block prior to the 10th then this will appear on your May bill as per normal.

We apologise for any inconvenience or confusion that this may have caused.

Kind regards

The Vodafone Team

I got that e-mail today...
As well as my fortnightly 'we've just activated your internet' e-mail that they send me regardless... it even includes a new password for some reason :-)
Plus every two weeks Chorus call us to say they have to install a splitter at our place. The funny thing is, the Chorus service guy remembers me, so we just have a laugh about it (obviously we already have what we need already).

I'd call them, but really I've decided that ignoring them is actually going to take less effort. :-)

When I rang them over a week ago about the problem they told me it has been happening since the 8th.  I notice it is backwards now and recording a lot less usage than it should be.
