I have a HTC Desire Z, rooted and running a sense 3 rom port (Virtuous Unity)
I hate the HTC messaging app though, so I removed it and am running the vanilla mms app
I've got the apn settings set up correctly, but when a pxt gets sent to me I just get a txt from Vodafone saying I recieved a pxt, and to go to pxtworld to view it.
Any help will be much appreciated.

send a PXT first and then future PXT sent to your number will be delivered to your handset

Its not related to your rooted handset in anyway at all

Thanks Johnr,

Worked perfectly :)
Just wondering though, If i change rom on my phone, will pxts still come through? Or will I have to send a pxt out to get it to work again.

As advised above not related to ROM so nope. If you get a new SIM card or mobile number then yes.
