Hi,

This question is regarding SMS on both the 2degrees and Vodafone networks, and hence, I thought of posting it on a common forum.

Suppose an SMS is sent from Australia. Receiving the message on a 2degrees phone shows the sender's correct number, whereas, receiving the message on a Vodafone phone will display the sender's number as 8323.

Could someone please enlighten me on this discrepancy.

Its an application originated message so not coming directly from a handset

I text from AU to NZ regularly and the receiver in NZ always gets my number (As I am sure JohnR can confirm as I text him earlier this week)

The SMS from 8323 are not been sent from a actual mobile number

I had a similar question when I tested sending SMS to a Vodafone number via Clickatell API (don't try on Telecom as they block incoming SMS via Clickatell APIs) and noticed a similar thing happening.

Basically Clickatell will use the cheapest route available, and that may strip the sender id. If you use one of the API settings to instruct Clickatell to always preserve the sender id then a more expensive route will be used.

I am using Intelligent Technologies API.. Have tried other APIs as well. Couldn't try Telecom, but tried on a sample of Vodafone based and 2 degrees based mobiles. All with same results. It seems Vodafone does not support that.

As I said in my reply above, it's not Vodafone, but the path your provider takes.
