Hi all

Looking at getting RBI installed, but only 3G is available for our region. What sort of speeds can we expect on 3G?

Currently have ADSL and it's atrociously slow (around the 1Mbps mark). We have another option (much more expensive installation cost) that reckons we could get between 5-20Mbps on their service.

If we can get around the same with Vodafone, then we'll most most likely go with them, or similar.

For a quick test, grab your phone and do speed test with the speed test app.

Before my RBI tower got upgraded to 4g, was getting around 8-10mb, with a 2mb up on voda 3g. A external antenna got that closer 15 down and 4mb up(from memory)

4g now bursts to 50-70mbs down and 30+ up. (lower latency also)

You also get RBI from spark and or Voda. but i use check http://www.ultimatebroadband.co.nz/rbi-wireless.html

Thanks for the tip, looks like we can get about 10Mbps. Pretty good upgrade compared to the speeds we currently get :)

Rang Vodafone today and have started the process.

The other option we had has an installation fee of $500, then added costs for wifi modem etc.

Vodafone RBI is gona be alot cheaper to get.

Be careful, make sure you test during peak holiday periods too.

We had VF 3G RBI in Taupo and during holiday times our banking website couldn't even load.

Other times we had 8Mbps down and almost 2Mbps up from memory.

Moved from them to Skinny 4G - seems reliable even during peak holiday times.. (I put it down to the 4G technology)..

Make sure the handset supports 3G dual carrier 42Mbp/s or you will only get half the speed if that

also get external antennas installed this should increase the speed and the reliability of the connection

I get about 20/5 on a good day with 3g, but ever since the local tower upgraded to 4g I get 50/20.
