Hi

I know that similar problems have been discussed on the forum before but I cannot work out the solution from what I have seen written.

A few days ago I set up a VOIP landline for my home using:
- Telstraclear to provide broadband. They supplied me with a Motorola Modem and Netcomm Wireless Router.
- 2Talk to provide the landline number
- Two Android phones with CSipSimple loaded on both to provide the handsets.

I was easily able to set things up so that I could make outgoing calls using this setup, but when I test to see whether incoming calls work they almost always go straight to 2Talks voicemail system.

What settings, on what component, do I need to change in order to enable incoming calls?

I've read on other forum postings that the solution is something to do with "registration times" and "NAT" but I couldn't work out exactly what I needed to change where. I fired up the control panel on the Netcomm Wireless Router but could find any setting for registration times.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not that familiar CSIPSimple - I would try another softphone, either SIPdroid or 3CX phone - both of these have NAT helper features which you can turn on. 3CX has STUN setting also - you could try enabling that with the 2talk stun server: stun.2talk.co.nz

That could quite likely get things going for you.

Firstly buy Bria. It's a vastly superior product.

Your problem is probably something like a SIP ALG setting in the router. Disable that and ensure your SIP retry registration is set to a low figure (180 for example) and that

In the netcomm routers 'SIP ALG' is enabled by default. Turn that off. And I second using Bria over 3CX and SIP droid. Not sure what makes it awesome but it just is.

I tried again this morning and incoming calls were working, without me having made any changes (and without me having made any outgoing calls).

Despite this piece of accidental progress - as you suggested:
- I openned up the Netcomm router interface. The SIP ALG setting was OFF by default (and I left it at that). I couldn't find anywhere to change registration time.
- I have purchased and installed Bria.

I will keep you informed.

You want find anything related to SIP registrations in the Netcomm. That is a setting on the soft phone. In Bria, go to the 'account advanced' menu and change the 'refresh interval' down to something lower than what it is. Also if you are on 2talk chuck 'sip.2talk.co.nz' in to the outbound proxy settings too just for good luck and select 'use outbound proxy'

Hi all

I loaded & installed Bria; but it hung on the start-up screen. I uninstalled and re-installed; but it still hung on start-up. I don't want to put a lot of work into getting Bria working. My Android phone (1st generation HTC-Desire) is very unreliable and suffers from a variety of hardware faults (even after a factory replace of the motherboard).

So I've reverted back to CSipSimple. As a result of your suggestions I've managed to find where to change the registration timeout and keep-alive in CSipSimple.

Registration timeout - Account (the key icon in the bottom left of screen) > Change your account to Expert (not Advanced) mode > Registration Timeout

Keep Alive - Menu > Setting > Network > Connection Keep Alive. You can specify different intervals for different types of connection.

At the moment calls are coming in (*** knows why, I haven't changed anything). Rather than mess around with things I'm going to leave it alone for a few days and see if it stays happy, unless anyone wants to suggest the optimumal WiFi registration time out, WiFi UDP keep alive, and Wifi TCP keep alive, settings for 2Talk.

An issue I found with using SipDroid is that wifi was going to sleep as soon as the screen turned off. I just set wifi sleep policy to "never" and it's been working fine since. Also SipDroid has some settings for "Control Wi-Fi Power" and "Screen on" but I found turning these on actually caused problems and only the wifi sleep policy change was required; Sipdroid has been fine for me since.

Not sure if any of this would help with CSipSimple, but might be worth trying.

Hi, this may solve your problem when recieving calls via Android/wifi with CSipSimple->

1-> settings, Network, Resolve DNS SRV (tick box)

2-> settings, Easy configuration, Always avaliable (is set on)

If your phone puts wifi to sleep or even csipsimple, it will go to voice mail again.

(I have telstraclear cable, same Netcomm N150 router and 2talk via csipsimple on Android via wifi and Android recieves calls, but my phone puts wifi to sleep sometimes??)

With the Netcomm NB304N router (as far as I can see this is what Telstra are supplying) , I found that disabling SIP ALG, setting port forwarding or even DMZ doesn't always let SIP traffic through
.
But the port trigerring feature seems to fix this, so you will need to trigger your signalling ports provided by 2talk.

As far as I could find with a quick search in regards to 2talk voip ports :

VoIP Control Port - 5060
Start Media Port - 16384
End Media Port - 32766

So trigger 5060 for starters, see if you can receive any incoming calls, if that works but you get one way audio, trigger a few media ports, something like 16384 - 16394 range, and that should fix it.
