Upgraded to Fibre with Homeline with Slingshot.

Their modem is the most garbage thing in terms of wifi. Upgraded to an ASUS one which doesn't have a pots port in it.

I was told by a mate (who is on Slingshot) that i can hook it up to the ONT box's pots port and call Slingshot up to provision it.

Can anyone confirm they can do this too?

I called Slingshot and the guy i was dealing with said it's not possible to do such a thing and quickly tried to dismiss the call because it's a 3rd party router...even though I'm talking about the ONT box

@sounddude would be able to confirm, but last i checked, they only provide voice over RGW.

If your requirements are that you have voice over the ONT, that should be a selection requirement.

Your ISP has to support ONT Voice. From what I understood of Slingshot, they don't do that - they use the gateway device (ie your router).

Spark do ONT Voice, and you could then use whatever router you want.

Your mate's not correct. Different providers' systems will be set up for either ONT or RGW VoIP - it's not just a trivial change to make.

no not likely, you could maybe setup the ISP router behind yours

out of interest what do you need a router like that in the first place? huge overkill

What router have you got from Slingshot? You could most likely set it up as an ATA behind your new router.

If WiFi was your only issue though, it may have been better to have purchased a decent WiFi AP instead - would have most likely been far cheaper than that router, and not have the issues with VoIP as well.

When the house the build. All the rooms were cabled to one area in the house. Unfortunately due to poor planning it was placed on one side of the house. Where our kitchen is (microwave, metallic fridge, at least 3 walls over) There is no reception what so ever.

Even with this modem it is 2/3 bars on all devices. (albeit a couple of devices has all 3 bars).

Do you think i could hook up the old modem's WAN to "port 1-8" on the current modem and that would pick it up?

the NF4v or something. The Wifi doesn't even make it into the next room. I am not expert in networking, only know AP means Access Point and rough idea of what they do. Not an expert on which is the best, setting them up etc

Correct. AP = access point. All it does is provide WiFi coverage from a wired connection. In your case, if the wifi is poor in the kitchen, you plug the AP into a network port in the kitchen, and the corresponding port in your network cabinet is connected to your router, which remains in the cabinet. That is the best practise way of doing a structured cabling system - it's not supposed to rely on a wifi signal from a metal cabinet in one corner of the building. Basically, you need whatever is providing wifi coverage to be in the actual area that coverage is needed - getting a router that shouts louder is not the solution, because the devices you are using still can't talk back to the router.

You should be able to plug the WAN port of the NF4v into a LAN port on your new router - set the WAN on the NF4v to get a DHCP address (as opposed to PPPoE), and see if that works.
