i also have a wireless connection in the franklin area which is 2 mb/1 mb speed, my end to hear someone is great but the person i am talking to says i sound like im talking underwater , i have the linksys wrp400 with builtin atas , the prefereed codec 729, is this a case of my sip provider, can a different provider make the difference and any suggestions who,my current is kiwilink ,also im using a uniden cordless dect phone can a linksys 9xxx series phone or similar make any difference and finally how can the latency issue be resolved if any. cheers
Like you, I am using Kiwilink's VoIP phone service and I am not impressed with their service so far. On December 21 or thereabouts, I was assigned a 280xxxx number (in the 09) region. Outgoing Calls work fine, but I discovered the next day that incoming calls go to a completely different person who happens to run a Web Design business.
I phoned Kiwilink on December 22 and every few days since. But nobody has been there to take any calls since December 22. Hopefully they will be back on deck next Monday January 5, but this has been a very long time to be unable to receive incoming phone calls.
We have another property which uses WorldxChange's VFX service over a Kordia Wireless connection. I cannot speak highly enough of VFX. It has been a rock-solid phone service since we first connected in October 2006.
I would suggest having a look at VFX and ditching Kiwilink. I have tried iTalk, Supra and now Kiwilink and none of them come close to VFX for Voice Quality, Features and good old-fashioned customer service.
Regarding hardware, with VFX, I am using a Linksys WRTP54G (very similar to WRP400) and the G729a codec with a Uniden DECT phone system. Quality is excellent, in fact better than we used to get from our old landline.
With Kiwilink VoIP, I am using a Linksys PAP2T with an old Sanyo analog cordless phone system. We do get a small amount of echo with that setup, but I have never experienced the "underwater" effect you mention.
hi peter here, thanks for your reply, the underwater is a description from my friend and also my partner has heard,people can here me but its not crystal clean, i am hoping its a setting ,i have been looking over the internet and on this site to get a handle on who appears to have a good service. a person at vfx said he could hook me up without a problem. i have in the past had slinshot i talkand compass and their plans they were both good and clear but had hardware issues the atas dropping out and needing to be rebooted all the time, my isp is compass wireless, a bit frustrating at times but for the speed i have and cap its ok for us . maybe if i one day get a phone number from someone i can ring and hear of the problem. cheers
