I am looking for a technician who can configure our new Voip system. This is for a small business and reliability is essential. We have two incoming analog lines to be connected to a Linksys SPA400 and SPA9000. We have 2x SPA942 and 2 analog phones.
The first company we had attempt this (who had voip experience) could not get it to opperate (suggested perhaps faulty equipment or cables) but could not fix or identify the exact fault.
If anyone has experience or can refer a local company it would be most appreciated.

If you don't hear from anybody try contacting Hadley Rich who runs Nicegear (and does post quite often here on GZ). He sells a lot of VoIP equipment and is located in Timaru so may be able to help you or recommend somebody in Chch who could help.

As someone that has spent a lot of time with many SPA9000's and SPA400's - despite the latest firmware being significantly better, there are still severe software issues with these products.  Your best bet is to just RMA or toss them, they're both crap and in the end will drive you up the wall.  Given the SPA9000's are only $300 odd and the SPA400 is about the same, your loss isn't great if you dump them and keep your phones.

The SPA9000 will definitely work, but there are all sorts of reliability problems, for example it loses contact with the SPA400 at random after around 1-2 weeks of uptime and requires you to reboot both devices.  The SPA400 also has trouble with recognising when a call has terminated occasionally, which can result in big bills for you if it doesn't release the analogue line because as far as your telco is concerned, you never hung up.
If you want a cheap replacement, buy yourself a mini ITX computer (would cost around $300 fully built) and load it with Trixbox.  Your SPA942 phones will work fine with it.
If you really must use the SPA9000 and SPA400, get the latest firmware from the linksys.com website (the .co.nz one is out of date) and flash them, as well as your phones.

I know of a reputable local IT company that spent a long time trying to get their Linksys VoIP system working and in the end I tink they binned it.

I wonder if that's why its been discontinued in favour of the UC500 platform?

If it doesnt work send it back although you probably still could use your SPA942's with Asterisk or at home via WXC as a second (much more cost effective) line.

Thanks for the advice, we have binned the SPA9000 in favor of an Asterisk Server and currently using the SPA400 to convert our analog lines. Currently investigating porting these lines to SIP

What about $175 Dynalink Netcomm V422 Smartvoice Gateway Two Phone/Fax Extensions For Voip + Connections (two) For PSTN Lines?
