Hi Geekzoners

Looking at Google I suspect this problem has raised its ugly head on here before but I cannot find a satisfactory solution from anything I have read so far.

I have just bought a Linksys SPA3102 and have been experimenting with conecting PSTN to VOIP.

I am able to make calls from PSTN to VOIP and mostly they go through, however, many times there is a delay in disconnection of the call which can be expensive if you are calling a cell phone.

I have entered the correct disconnect tone for New Zealand but this makes no difference.

My VOIP provider is 2talk.

As I am new to this piece of equipment I suspect I have not entered a correct setting somewhere.

If someone can give me a typical configuration for New Zealand I would appreciate it.

Your suggestions please :)

Are you using a TelstraClear PSTN line or Telecom?

Oooops in my hurry to post this I overlooked to say the setup is using a device that accepts cell phone calls and routes them to an analogue phone or to your ATA - it's called an xlink.

Do you think this might be a big part of the problem?

What exactly is an xlink?

So you're ringing your PSTN line from another phone. You're then using the PSTN/VOIP passthru to make an outbound VoIP call to a 3rd party. Is this correct?

An Xlink is a "bluetooth cellular gateway" www.myxlink.com to give a description of what it is

and yes you are correct I am using the PSTN/VOIP passthru to make an outbound VOIP call to a 3rd party

It sounds like the SPA3102 isn't correctly detecting the line disconnect from the xlink box when you drop the call.

There are quite a few options in the SPA3102 under "PSTN Disconnect" that allow you to select the detection type however there is a chance that you will never get this working. Some gateway devices simply don't provide any form of disconnection tone and therefore the device has no way of immediately knowing the disconnect has occured.

Once the disconnect occurs first try seeing if there is any tone on the line. Setting detect PSTN long silence to on may help but may also accidently chop off calls if there is silence on the line to set it to something such as 20 seconds. Detect CPC and Polarity Reversal should probably both be set to yes.

Any of these could fix it but there are no guarantees. There also line voltage settings that could help but without having access to a xlink box for testing it would be impossible to give you any settings to try.

If this is going to be a heavily used gateway I'd recommend moving to a standalone GSM gateway, preferably one that has a SIP interface rather than the FXO/FXS connection as it offers better call quality.

I tried what you suggested but alas it didn't work - yes I suspect it could be the Xlink box.

Oh well keep trying.

There are a few cheap GSM gateways that have the same issue. Some of these devices simply aren't designed to be interconnected with anything else so don't provide any form of disconnect tone.

You're not located in Wgtn at all are you?

Below is my setup conected to a GSM FWT:

Ask the people that make the box if it does polarity reversal on disconnection - if it doesnt then there isnt a lot you can do to make it reliable.

If I remember right the old ericsson GSM gateway that vodafone used to sell ages back was one of the few that does it, and most pabx's need polarity reversal to work properly.

Because the gateway was configured for America it needed an American disconnect tone.
I had to configure my SPA3102 with that disconnect tone in the PSTN tab - PSTN to VOIP.

Once I did that it worked fine when dialling in using my mobile.
