Hi,
I am looking for a Hosted IP PBX system for our company.

We are a small company with the following staffing structure:
3 Staff - Wellington Office
1 Staff - Mobile (Wellington, Brisbane, occasional national travel)
1 Staff - Auckland (Home Based)

It is our intention to use primary PC soft phones.

Our clients are based around NZ.

We are looking for a low latency affordable service.

Any insite into recommended services would be appreciated.

Don't use soft phones. Trust me, been there, and they're not worth the dramas.

I'd have to agree with nate there.

Who wants to boot a PC to make a phone call? Real phones are (almost always) the way to go.

Thanks guys, your points regarding softphones is noted.

Personally (I'm the one travelling trans tasman) I was planning on using Sipdroid on my Samsung Galaxy S as my default phone. We currently have a single office phone using an analog phone on Vfx ip line using a router with the right port.

Thoughts on reccomended phones for a small office?

Sipdroid is okay. I use it on my N1, voice quality isn't fantastic, but usable.

Regarding your original question; you should probably sit down and make a list of features you need (and would like) and work out what type of solution you actually need. Some general VoIP providers offer PBX-ish features that may mean you don't need a "hosted PBX" solution.

Phones are a bit of a personal opinion. Some popular brands I would recommend comparing are; Polycom, Yealink, snom and Cisco/Linksys. All are good, price wise they vary quite a bit, functionality wise they all do pretty similar things.

(Disclaimer: I have a commercial interest in VoIP equipment. I don't think I'm biased as we have access to everything so this is my personal opinion)

I use 2talk as my VOIP Provider with good results and have for the PAst few years. I use a Snom Desk phone for my office an it's great. I'm using Weephone on my iPhone for VOIP with 2talk an works well.
