I am thinking / probably going to get naked broadband through slingshot, this comes with a free iTalk a bit connection.

My question to the VoIP gurus out there is: can I connect the iTalk service to a VoIP / SIP connection on my android phone (Nexus One, Android 2.3.3/CM7).

I think it should be technically possible to connect while I'm in wireless range at home.

I asked slingshot tech support if they support other VoIP hardware, they replied that any hardware should work but they don't support it, only the linksys ATA they supply.

My plan would be to get the ATA box so we still have a "land line" in the house, but to also to have WiFi access to the home line when I'm home. The other bonus is that moving to naked broadband would save us money each month.

You can do it, ive done it with SIPdroid on my ideos X5, but it didnt work well at all, quite echoy and dropped out a fair bit. Will need a good strong wifi signal to hold a conversation.

The voip experts on here should be able to confirm, but i think that by registering one device (ie your phone) you deregister your other device (the ATA) so you might have to choose between the two, or upgrade your voip account for multiple users.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I had read a bit about people doing this, but I didn't know about having multiple clients, I assumed it would be fine with any number of analogue phones hung off the ATA device but was unsure of the ramifications of having a completely separate device suddenly appear on the network.

In the future I expect my partner to also get an android phone...and she would want this functionality also.

Interesting times :)
