help from all those knowledgable!!

i was downloading and installing daemon tools when it prompted to reboot, so i did, but when i restarted my graphics card wasn't working anymore! subsequently i only have access to 1024x768 graphics as my "intel 82855PM processor to agp controller - 3341" cannot find enough free resources to be used (code 12). interestingly "my smc ircc - fast infrared port" and "com3" do not start either.

specs:
hp compaq laptop x1407ap, 1.7Ghz, ati mobility radeon 9200 windows xp
was running ati omega drivers v3.8.252 (which does not work as it cannot detect the ati card!)

i have tried system restore to no avail as it did not back up prior to the incident (sigh).. and also restarting in safe mode, using Driver Cleaner Pro 1.5 to clean all ati files, then reinstalling the intel drivers (using the compaq website and downloading "sp25800"), then reinstalling the ati omega drivers again... with no effect - it still does not detect the ati 9200 card hence i cannot get graphics, and the "intel 82855PM processor to agp controller - 3341" still does not function.

running dxdiag shows that the "display device" is completely missing.

help! what can i do to get my original graphics back????

I would suggest, don't use any 3rd party hacked/modded driver. I have tried them on my x1030ap which uses ATI MR9200 too. Try get the driver from HP (Compaq Presario X1407AP Notebook PC).

Your best and recommended way is reinstalling your system from scratch to ensure no "faulty bits" are attached to the system. Good time to have a clean start. Also, your system should come with a recovery CD for restoring back to first-time-experience. After restoring, do as much as you can to get your system onto the internet, activate if require and update any service pack ASAP! Ensure you have a minimal firewall on, in your Windows Firewall for now. Then use the latest driver Windows Update can find. In some cases, the Windows Update may not have the optimised video driver, if this is the case, use the ATI driver from above.

Why blame a fault initiated by a Daemon Tools install on Omega video drivers? The problem is probably occurring at a more basic level maybe sparked by Daemons SCSI drivers.
The ATI Radeon software manager isn't as negative about Omega "The author of these drivers is part of the CATALYST beta driver testing team and also in direct contact with ATI. In fact we would go so far as to say that if a user chooses to go the mod driver route they go with the Omega Drivers." However since ATI's later drivers don't support 9200 the Omega .252 is the last that will.

That may be true, but in my experience and a few others on other forum has had difficulty to get Omega driver to work well on MR9200. My personal experience with Omega driver has always been defective and unstable. In all Omega version that I tried, I eventually revert back to HP/Compaq's ATI MR9200 driver despite its age but do provide better stability.

The op's experience (or your experience) may vary differently from mine.
