Hi All, I have had this message on many websites i frequently visit and ive tried just about every setting i can think of to resolve the problem. The final straw for me was a recent upgrade of Yahoo groups to some NEO platform and now i cant see my group listing at all unless i use Google Chrome etc.
Ive searched the net alot over the lastr year and the Microsoft website, tried clock settings etc and been into the advanced options and i still cant get rid of this popup blocking my trusted websites.
If anyone has a permanent cure to either stop the popup blocker from showing or fix this for good i would be most pleased!
If not im going to be a goooogler for the rest of my life! I run XP sp3 and all the updates of explorer on automatic. After all the searches ive found so much on this topic so i know im not the only one...

Does it happen in any page? Are you sure you don't have malware installed that may be trying to intercept your pages?

I recommend you try the Housecall for a quick scan.

I have explorer 8. Not every website but enough to be very anoying as many users seem to be finding on lots of posts i read. Microsoft said sometimes it caused by time settings not matching the network but mine is set to automatic from the net as they suggested. I have avast and Zonealarm firewall all up to date. I dont believe its some form of malware as its to do with Certificate errors?
The problem with the advanced options for the popup blocker as it has to be turned off for every type of issue you may have, it cant just be turned off with one tick box!

Malware and certificate errors could be closely related. The malware could be trying to load some other malware from a SSL-secured website and the certificate is expired or can't be checked, so IE would throw an error. Or the malware could be trying to connect to a SSL-based proxy to collect your data, including keyboard actions such as names and passwords.

There are so many possibilities involving malware and SSL...

What particular page does this happen on and what's the exact error? (Maybe get a screenshot)

You're saying the page works fine in Chrome and Firefox?

I dont get it on all pages i visit for example not a problem on Trademe and facebook and many other overseas Motoring forums i use but shows up on Yahoo groups with the new NEO version and blocks my group subscriptions from showing. I have inserted the screen dump of it showing on Geek Zone while veiwing this thread! I dont have a problem at all on Chrome its just the IE popup blocker that seems to be the problem. I used to see it now and then but its certainly very prominent now. On the Yahoo groups even whe i ask to display rhe blocked content it still wont load this also happens on our local Metro Bus website when trying to veiw time tables for my kids!
Not to keen to reload Xp it takes forever to get back to where you were no matter what backup and transfer system you use. I run my HD on a pci raid driver so swapping pcs is not to much problem if i have to but obviously doesnt become a fresh install.

When was the last time you ran Windows Update?

Are the time and timezone correct?

I use automatric updates which i always see installing on shutdown. I checked the time settings as that seemed to be a problem for most people having this error but not me! Its set to time.windows.com and Auckland Wellington with automatic daylight savings time zone which i have always used.

I would say your machine may well be compromised or have IE addons like delta search installed

try running Ie with no addons (look under accessories or system tools) and see how you go

Ok thanks not sure what settings that would be ive turned just about every fault error or certificate setting to off. I wish the IE popup blocker could be simply disabled or at least give a better description of what exactly it is is blocking.

For starters - Reinstall Windows or if it's only for Internet and Email and no speciality apps I'd recommend using something like elementary OS which is a free Linux-based distribution aimed towards your standard user. You're able to multiboot with Windows but might be an excellent way to bring life back to an old machine.

- Use Google Chrome, IE8 is well behind the times when it comes to internet standards and security, you're easily able to install this in elementary OS also by simply going to the Google Chrome site and downloading it, double clicking on the installer and installing it.
- With elementary OS you don't have to be focused on security to the same degree, it comes secured.
- It's got a simple OSX-like feel to it and comes with an email client (geary mail), a decent internet browser (called Midori) and a software centre to install new programs, games etc.
- You're easily able to install Libre Office to do Word, Excel etc, you can edit photos, play music, movies etc.
- If it's an older computer it'll run quite quick, I'm currently running it on my laptop and love it.
- Works out of the box, you don't have to mess around with drivers etc and can be easily removed if you don't like it.
- I've noticed you're using Skype, this is easy to install also by simply going to the Skype website and hitting download.

Since it's likely an older computer install the 32 bit version of it, either burn the ISO to a disk or put it on a flash drive - there's tonnes of help available on the site, give it a shot and let us know how you get on. Make sure you back up your data before just in case
