Hi there. I recently purchased a laptop from cyberpowerpc.com and it came preloaded with Vista. Turns out it's got alot of compatibility issues with the games and programs I use so I want to switch back to windows 2000.

I have a valid wn2k pro install disc/key and a disc with all the drivers. The driver disc has a version for 2k, xp and vista.

I tried installing 2k with a full wipe - but then every time the pc tries to shut down or restart it gets a stop error Driver_Power_State_Failure and locks up.

Also when restarting it will freeze up when loading up windows. I got it to work once or twice and tried to update all the drivers but then it freezes up every time. I reinstalled 3 times and tried all day to get it to work.

I'm not sure what the problem is.

Any hep would be appreciated. I mainly bough this laptop to play games on but all my games crash frequently using vista.

Purely a guess here but you could try disabling ACPI in your BIOS or at least playing with the power settings.

Windows 2000 is quite old now, so there might be some issues with your fancy new laptop.

Ah yes, I remember back in 2001 when my family got a new desktop, XP just hadn't been released yet so we tried installing Windows 95 on it. It worked, but because the computer was top of the line, Windows 95 wasn't able to use all of the components of our computer.

This could be your problem, that one part of the computer is incompatible with Windows 2000 and because it may be a crucial part, it may be completely stuffing up your laptop.

Just an idea, hope it helps.

Yes, I agree with the others. It's most likely a driver - or lack of a driver that works with Windows 2000. I doubt many current systems have drivers for a OS released some time ago and no longer supported...

Nowadays PC's are being built for Vista. So those components are there for Vista to work. Not for another OS, because it was not designed for that OS. It was designed for another OS. This basically means that what works for one may not work for the other.
Just my five (no, ten ;) ) cents worth.
