Has anyone ever heard of a personal user ever getting caught for running a pirated version of Windows? Any chance of getting caught with Vista? I heard that if you validate it you will get caught??? Its kinda a waste of time if you can't go on internet

Windows copy 'protections' exist for this very reason - to discourage people from illegally using their software which they should have paid for.
People who have real copies face issues because of 'piracy' and have to jump through hoops like WGA and windows product activation.

While it is unlikely that they would catch you per se, they can make your life difficult if say, you want to update windows or download other microsoft software.

This type of discussion is really not welcome here as you are basically asking "Will I get caught or can I get away with it?". Just go and buy the software.

In New Zealand, if you are a student you can buy Vista Home Premium for all of $200 for an entire operating system upgrade, or get Linux for free.

If its any consolation, it is completely possible that you will get caught and be sentenced to death.

Or get a fine & community service.

Or something.

And if you install Wikndows Vista and do not activate the software it you will start running in reduced functionality mode.

And software piracy is not "cool".
