Hi all,

Just built my first PC today but have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get around the problem of 'No Media Drivers' when I try to install Windows 8.
I got a burnt copy from a friend that I've tried to make work to no avail I just constantly get 'No Media Drivers Found' when I try and get passed the 'Install Windows' screen.
I've also put a copy of the .iso on a flashdrive using the Windows USB Download tool but the PC doesn't recognize that it's plugged in even though the light on the USB drive itself is on. Also tried NTSF and FAT32 and neither work, however, I did plug the drive into my new PC BEFORE using the Windows USB Tool and it did recognize it.

Anyone have any tips on what to do?

At a guess I'd say this is the cause of your problems:

Try buying and installing a genuine copy...

I had a CD key, it was just a burnt disc. Got it working anyway.

Guessing you needed HDD or motherboard storage drivers? Unusual in this day and age, but possible. Also you need to set the boot order so it boots off the USB or CD before the HDD. Glad you got it sorted either way.

Just as an informational, when installing from USB flash drive, make sure the USB device has been made bootable before copying the image files on. Also, enable boot from USB in the bios (and some times its important to ensure it is the first boot device). Finally, on some machines, insert the USB into port 1 (this is often the one closest to the side of the case on the rear).

UEFI machines don't need the USB key made bootable, it just needs to be formatted FAT32 then copy the contents of your Windows 8.1 ISO onto the key

Problem was I couldn't get the computer to recognise the USB drive as a bootable option even though it was obvious that the PC was giving power to the drive. In the end I disabled both the CD and SSD and I guess it was forced to use the USB drive.
