Hi Everyone,

I am interested in buying a Nextbook tablet with keyboard currently retailing for $350+/- at the Wharehouse and Noel leeming.

I have looked at one in the store and it looks surprisingly robust to touch.

Has any one brought one? What are your thoughts? Did it meet your expectations?

I am only interested in using it, predominately as a consumption device - with minor/light infrequent office/word docs

Secondly, related to the above, will tablets like this be able to upgrade to Windows X :) upon full release?

I haven't bought one. My suspicion would be that the 1GB RAM and the 32GB storage would be a frustration as soon as you venture into any desktop applications. If you were to only use 'modern interface' applications it might be ok, but I wouldn't want to spend $389 to be the guinea pig to find out. I can say a Baytrail quad core based tablet with 2GB RAM and 64GB storage is quick, responsive and capacious with good battery life, if you were to use that as your starting point. Windows 10? Who knows, apparently it needs less resource than 8.1, it really depends on how MS want to sell and deploy it though. Something like the Asus T100TA might be good, though it comes in at about $650 so it's significantly more expensive.

1. What's the screen like?
2. Are the apps you want to use available in Metro?
3. Will you be streaming most of your content?

thank you guys for your thoughts. I have also read Paul thurrotts review and his conclusion was that they appear to be a good product (with limitations) for the price - they are marketed in the US under E Fun Nextbook. He also mentioned that they are releasing a 11.2, 12" version in may...but I dont want to wait that long....even though that is considerably cheaper than Surface 3 pro...mind you the processor is no where near as good as Surfaces.

Hi All,

I am only interested in using it, predominately as a consumption device (streaming, web browsing etc)- with minor/light infrequent office/word docs (club minutes, note taking, emails).

There are cheaper android versions for sure, but I enjoy Microsoft's apps and I have a windows phone so for me it makes sense.

The 1 gig of RAM could be tricky but the MS apps for the most part are configured for their phone - Actually, that is a thought....I don't know if it runs 'budget' windows 8.1 with bing or the RT version of 8.1

To be honest for its intended use, I am not sure even that would be an issue.

Windows 8.1 on this device is tuned to run on 1GB

I've had one for 3 months now and we have sold a lot of these into schools

Microsoft just broadened their Android Office previews program today, so virtually any tablet platform will do what you need.

Excellent, concise review...you have helped me to cement my decision :)

BTW not sure if you were aware but the Nextbook will be available in May in 11" and 12" for around $25 USD extra for each increase in screen size.

That would be a sale price for about $450-500 for the 12" again excellent value...especially as all models are equipped with the volcanised 'rubber' backed keyboard, case
