I tried installing XP SP2 and start up took about half an hour, and to open anything eles up took about 10min to open, I have uninstalled XP SP2 and running back on XP and it works fine, can any one help??

Not too hot on partitioning etc, and choosing which OS to run on, but I'm pretty sure you would have had it configured for two operating systems to be running at once. This drained all the available memory and caused a massive slowdown.
Basically, you want to upgrade XP to XP SP2 (a good idea for improved function and, particularly, security).
How to do that I shall leave to the xperts. I think it's not difficult, could do it myself, but not familiar enough with the options to talk someone through it.

Before installing SP2 I would make sure you have no virus or spyware software installed... SP2 is very stable and I have a couple of virtual machines running it - they boot in seconds.

on some systems i've found xp sp2 can run very slowly. very rarely though, never did much investigation - yeah
