I've read a bunch of posts and think I understand how to downgrade from Vista to XP, but this computer has been formatted so Windows is on the same drive partition as the rest of my files.

If I "downgrade" so to speak, is there a way i can ensure that my files do not get erased or eroded in the process?

second, how do I get to the BOIS to change the necessary items in order to perform this "downgrade"/reformat?

Hi DancinFool,

I'd suggest that you get make a backup of all the files you want to keep. Get a USB Hard drive ro burn the important files onto DVD. That way you have any problems you'll still have a copy elsewhere safe.

It'll probably be a good idea to just reinstall Windows XP from scratch over everything. That way you avoid any rubbish being left behind on the computer which might result from an upgrade/downgrade.

To get to the BIOS on most computers, you want to press F8 when your computer is starting and it should take you into the BIOS. I wouldn't recommend playing in there if you dont know what you're doing and in most cases you shouldn't even need to go in there if you just want to install windows. From memory most of the computers I've looked at boot from the CD first as a default anyway.

You have to copy your files to another drive and then install the OS. There's no changes required in the BIOS.
