Sorry for the dumb question, but I got a new W10 only Tablet, and I want to run an account which is local to the machine but LINK my MS account to it, rather than have it take over the entire account. Is this possible?

Is this to install Store apps for example?

You can associate a Windows account to a Directory account if your PC is joined to an AD. I am looking at a test laptop here though with a local account and there's no such option. You can add accounts for Calendar/Mail but that's it.

Yes.

You can certainly set Windows 10 up to run that way during installation. I am running it that way now.

The option is somewhat obscured. Microsoft clearly would prefer you used a Microsoft login.

I haven't tried to set it up on purchased, preinstalled machine.

Of course, you could always reinstall/reset your PC and setup a local account.

I already have it set up as a local account. I want to ADD an Additional Account (Supplementary) so I can access the store etc, without taking over the entire machine.

If you know how, please let us know. I am sure I won't be the only person who wants to know.

In the new settings panel you access from the start menu (Above the power options), go to accounts then "Your email and accounts". At the very bottom of that section is the option to add a Microsoft account. I think that will do what you are after.

Pretty sure that's the one that takes over your entire PC.

I thought you just setup a local account, and once done, go to the 'store' and it will prompt you to log in to use it. Job done?

Like others have said.. just open Store and it will prompt you for a Microsoft account.

You may also be interested in this...

Disable switching to Microsoft Account

This will block you from accidentally ever converting your PC to use Microsoft accounts.

I find it extremely irritating how Microsoft keep trying to con us into using a Microsoft account to login.

I have no problem using a Microsoft account. I like how things get synchronised across machines (although not a complete experience but really close).

I want some stuff syncd and other stuff not synced. When I add a MS account to a machine, it doesn't allow me to specify granularly what I want.

Indeed. Apple's just as bad; assuming that if you have two computers then you want them both set up the same way. I wouldn't have two of them if I wanted them to be identical!

I'd love for it to say, give me your credentials, then a [] Sync everything []Selective Sync

Also would love to see from the cloud perspective what is being synced to each machine (and a list of machines that a particular login is connected to).
