Hi

I installed Windows 10 wanting to test out the new system, but after a driver compatibility issue which I grew tired of trying to understand and resolve, I opted to revert to my original Windows 7 Pro OS. Unfortunately when I tried to open webpages after the rollback, neither Firefox nor IE would work, even though LAN and wifi are working fine. I've tried all sorts of options to get it working but it seems this may be yet another issue of driver or software compatibility. Another problem I have is that I don't seem to have been provided with a recovery disc in order to refresh the Windows 7 OS. Ideally I'm hoping someone may be able to suggest something to help, because nothing has worked so far and the forums I've tried online aren't especially helpful. It's a 64 bit system, and it's an Acer Travelmate P643-V, if that helps at all. I tried installing Chrome and even wanted to reinstall Windows 10 but without working internet I don't know how or whether that's possible. Any further info required just let me know and I'll do my best to cooperate.

Also restart your router.

No, I get the message "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer". I restarted it and still can't receive them.

How would this be related to a router issue if the connections are working, or at least appear to be? I can use my phone just fine so what would be the difference? I'm thinking this is a software issue isolated from network hitches, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks, I'll have to get that onto my PC with a USB drive as soon as I can transfer from another PC because I can't do it with my phone atm.

If you can use the phone probably ok. Even so, sometimes routers do weird things and get confused etc.

But anyway the update issue kind of indicates some fundamental services refuse to start. You could look in the event viewer for more I think, but see if the troubleshooter is any use.

On the face of it, if that machine has local network access but no internet access then low fruit is a DNS problem on the machine. You could plug and play delete the network adaptor then reboot amd let it install that tends to reset a bunch of things without trying.

This has been resolved now. I decided to recover the OS via the partition and all seems to be working fine. It wasn't ideal but I wasn't sure other methods were going to achieve what I wanted. Thanks for the suggestions.
