Greetings, Recently I started receiving emails with garbled coding on the remarks line and attachments in the form of jpg's. I have always received these with no problem and when questioning them they assured me they did nothing different.

Never having to check before, I noticed their emails with attachments are now coming in as plain text, and other emails from other friends are coming in as HTML.

These are no problem and I can view them as before. However, the emails with plain text and attachments are long garbled coding on the remarks section, attachments under the paper clip can be viewed by clicking on them one by one. If there is separate text that goes with the picture then the two are separated. Text with the garbled coding, pics with the attachments.

They both tell me that I did something to my computer to make this happen. Has anyone had the same problem, and if so, what did you do to correct the problem??? Thanks.

Yes, these are attempts by h a c k e r s to insert data miners, trojans, worms etc into ur pc.

We all have to learn how to spot them better such as:

.bmp or .jpg file attachments that are very low filespace such as 1k to 10k.

Take a look at the sender, if there are garbled alphanumerics before the @ symbol, thats a dead give away.

people addressing you with a different name other than yours -- this is a spam.

then there are the service check scams which are fraud you have to watch out for, someone could convince you about a really good deal, send you a big money check, you cash it and the bank actually takes money out of your account to cover for the scam check that usually bounces within 3 days. Then it is you who is out of the big money. this is a very common scam these days here in the USA.

In addition to watching for the signs, you should be able to set filters in your email to block the offenders.

have you ever opened up your email and saw about 10 or more offending messages? rather than deleting each one, you could delete all 10 at once, first by highlighting one at the end, locate the last one, hold down shift key then left click on the last one to highlight all 10 of them at the same time. Then you can delete or block all of them in one swift stroke :)

We also have to keep up on the latest cleaners, a good one is a free d/l from www.lavasoft.com Ad aware se personal.

Dont get something called adware or adaware these are hacker progs that can do dmg.

find cCleaner too for a low overhead cleaner.

Thanks for the reply. There were some interesting things mentioned. However, I guess I failed to properly mention that these emails I was receiving were from friends who have sent email for many years. It was two particular friends that their emails were being received as text rather than rich text )(HTML). So I was asking is there a particular setting on on Outlook Express that would allow me to see the plain text as it should be.
