When I boot up , and Diskcheck runs, my screen tells me that I can cancel the diskcheck at any time. I'm probably really stupid, but I can't figure out how to do that! (Yes, I tried "esc", and just about everything else. Please advise. Richard
there is probably a countdown of 10 seconds or so where it's saying "disk checking will begin in xx seconds, press a key to cancel"...press something at that point and it will bypass the check and boot the OS. but if it's happening every time you reboot then there may be a disk problem and it might be a good idea to let it do its thing.
Thanks, Gehenna, but the screen doesn't actually say that, or I'd hit the F button. The screen clearly says "You can cancel the disk check at any time ... " (etc). Presumably this is standard for Win XP Pro, so I am a little surprised that there isn't a clear "answer" ('Clear Answers from MS' I hear you say dubiously!). Regardless, the disk check insists on going through everything - all my drives, there is usually no problem, and it's very tedious, especially if there is supposed to be a simple way to stop it. Richard.
This command will exclude a drive from being checked on startup but Windows will have marked the drive 'dirty' for a reason. It could be anything from a software issue to hardware failure
